Hidden America: Places You've Never Visited In The States

Once you start traveling and visiting different places around the world, you start noticing how many parts of the world are similar. But, perhaps the first area you should start exploring is the United States. (I actually call it vacationing in your backyard.)

Chimney Rock, North Carolina

The States has numerous amount of fantastic places worth seeing. For instance, many Americans yearn to visit Africa, Europe, Australia or Asia, while they did not fully explore the United States of America, the country that undoubtedly possess untouched natural beauties that no country in the world has. 

Amicalola Falls - Dawsonville, Georgia

In case you are looking for stunning waterfalls, then visiting the Dawsonville, GA area of North Georgia should be your next destination. Standing at 729 feet, Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascading waterfall in the Southeast. There are two ways that you can reach the summit of the fall. I'd suggest you take the scenic route by hiking the man-made path instead of taking the challenging trail with the staircase. Amicola Falls is within a park and you can camp, stay the weekend in a cabin, fish for trout in the stocked ponds or bring your mountain bike for an adventure around the area. Many people might not know about this place, but Georgia has quite a few waterfalls.  I'm leading a free Georgia Waterfall tour  there on June 4, 2016 with my travel group The Nomads. Jekyll Island, Georgia

If you have wondered how and where members of the high society use to relax then Jekyll Island off the coast of Georgia is a place for you. In the early 20th century this resort was the top destination for American socialites but at present times, Jekyll Island is accessible to all people from all parts of the United States. It should not be challenging to finding proper accommodation at AirBNB's and hotels in the area. With festivals that go throughout the year it is never boring in Jekyll Island, but if you want a more relaxing stay visit the famous marshlands and beachfront with Driftwood trees that are absolute favorites for couples and families. 

Katy Trail State Park, Missouri

Katy Trail State Park is an excellent destination for everyone, no matter if you are an adventurous type or a leisure person. The place offers many horse trails, as well as the trail for hikers and bicyclists. But, apart from these various pathways, you can also visit historic railroad bridges and tunnels. Of course, the lovers of nature will surely enjoy capturing the incredible views of forests, valleys and fields in the park. While at Katy Trail Park, one can simply relax, and rest their souls. I recommend a one-day trip between Rocheport and Boonville. These are the two early 19th century towns that are separated by incredible vineyards and preserves. So, in case you decide to make Katy Trail one of your future destinations, you can stay in some B&Bs located in the surrounding area since there are no campsites in the area. 

Caddo Lake - Uncertain, Texas

Uncertain, Texas is a small town located in East Texas.  Don't let the name of the city shy you away from visiting. I grew up about 30 minutes from Uncertain and this is most beautiful place in East Texas. The lake is named after the Southeastern culture of Native Americans called Caddoans or Caddo, who lived in the area until the 19th century.  Caddo lake is one of the largest flooded cypress forests in the United States. This place is where I go to fish and take my Jon boat down the winding river channels through the beautiful Cypress Trees. This area of Texas-Louisiana boarder is magical. When I travel thru the river I feel that I've gone back in time.  Caddo Lake has everything that a traveler may want: beautiful scenery, rich history, many attractions and the locals are always friendly. This is a small town that provides many activities for any nomad that loves being out in nature. People usually come here for fishing year round, boating and the nature hikes. Stay in a Bed and Breakfast in Jefferson, Texas and visit the historic downtown area. 

Weaverville, California 

Take a trip back in time is the motto in Weaverville. The city sits below the Trinity Alps Wilderness and has a ton of outdoor activities for you to enjoy. This small historic town will show you some of the most beautiful parts of American history and culture. People from all around the world traveled to Weaverville during the Gold Rush, but some of the most numerous among them were the Chinese immigrants. The old west was home to Weaverville with saloons, gunfights and even a stagecoach robbery by the notorious Black Bart, a.k.a. Charles E. Boles. Still today, you can visit a 138-year old working Chinese temple just near the saloon on the main street. Also, you should not miss a chance to eat at the La Grange Cafe that is located in the old band and drugstore dating back in 1854. Here you can try a variety of delicious and authentic dishes made from boar, rabbit and buffalo. And how how about a glass of wine from the wine cellar in the old bank vault?

So, before you book that ticket to a foreign land get out and travel around the states to see the beauties of our own country.
